11.11.11 My Brother's Wedding

When my youngest brother told us that they were tying the knot this year, I volunteered immediately to make their cake.  I was really excited because I was about to be finally given the opportunity to design my first wedding dessert table.

Cards (brother) and MJ (SIL) didn't ask for any specific design, they just wanted 5 small cakes for their ninongs and ninangs (sponsors), and a simple cake to cater to their small number of guests.

I just asked MJ her favorite color.  I also asked them if they wanted to incorporate a touch of ragnarok (online game) theme into their cupcakes since that's where they met.  They both liked the idea, so there... :)

To add style to the upper part of the dessert table I added paper flowers hanging from the ceiling.

Then Marc spray painted our old basket with white to achieve a shabby chic appeal.  It's where we placed cookie giveaways.  We added the paper flower and hand made sugar flowers to enhance the design.

Btw... those sugar flowers were also hand made.

We originally planned for ragnarok characters as their cake topper, but the weather was weird making it difficult for the gumpaste to harden.  Designing and using cookies as bride and groom cake toppers saved me from more added work. :D

Here's an overall look of my first dessert table.

Right before the newly weds were about to drink their wine, the choco-banana truffles were all gone. =P~

Sponsored Art: Juliana's 1st Birthday Cake

Honey, my colleague, ordered cake and cupcakes for her little princess' first birthday.  She was kind enough to order in advance that I had more than enough time to prepare for it.  However, something unexpected sadly happened.  Little Juliana got sick, she was confined in the hospital on her birthday. :(

The huge party was cancelled, so Honey asked me to continue making just the cake only.  She opted for a simpler design since they will only let Juliana blow the cake in the hospital.

The toy toppers were given to me ahead of time so it was very easy for me to conceptualize the design.  Since I have already made several mickey mouse design supposedly for cupcakes, I just incorporated it around the cake.

I'm glad Honey liked the taste of the cake.. I guess I have finally found my ideal chocolate cake. :)

Barney Cake and Cutie Patootie Maggie

I have been working for the same company for 10 years now. (gasp! I didn't just say that!)  In my long stay in the said company, I have collected a lot of close and wonderful friends along with adorable godchildren.

Maggie, one of my goddaughters, celebrated her 3rd birthday last September.  So I decided to make her a Barney cake.

This was the first time we made a 3D topper.  I said "we" since Cards (brother) and Marc (husband) made Barney's initial molding.  I just helped with the finishing touches such as the eyes, balloon, and the green thingie on his tummy.

We were laughing a lot while making it since it was Barney they were "forced" to make.  The least favorite character of all.  It all started by associating Barney with Arnie, a dinosaur mascot from the movie "Nine Months".  Hugh Grant punched the Arnie in front of all the kids inside the store because he was annoying.  So every time we see Barney from the store shelves, we had this inside joke about wanting to punch Barney in the face.

But, since my dear goddaughter Maggie loves Barney, they had no choice but to make it. :))

It was so worth it to convince them into making the topper...
Need proof?

I thought Dora was still her favorite character, good thing I asked her dad what her current favorite is.  He replied Barney automatically and he's absolutely right!  Just take a look at the photo below.

Now every time we talk over the phone, there is always a conversation starter. LOL!

She never forgets the cake!  She always tell me about how she blew out the candle and ate the cake every time we talk.

She would also ask me what I am baking now.

Isn't she a cutie patootie?

Then she would end our conversation with.. "I love you ninang, I miss you, love you, ingat (take care)!"

Sigh... such an adorable baby. :x

It wasn't so long ago when she looked like this...

I love you too Maggie... I'm glad you liked your cake. :*
